If you have just reactivated an employee who was terminated, you may need to review and update the employee's service dates. Service dates define key dates in an employee's employment, such as the date the employee began working for your company or the date when the employee became eligible for accrual benefits such as vacation time. Because service dates are useful for determining when employees become eligible for certain benefits, ADP recommends that you enter them for all employees.

Note: After you reactivate an employee, the menu items on the left side of the Terminated Employee Positions (or Terminated Employees) page become active and you can use them to edit or update the reactivated employee's data. However, when you leave the Terminated Employee Positions (or Terminated Employees) page and go to another part of the application, you cannot come back to the page to continue editing the reactivated employee's information. Instead, you must edit the data in the Employee Editor.

To update an employee's service dates from the Terminated Employee Positions (or Terminated Employees) page:

  1. On the Terminated Employee Positions (or Terminated Employees) page, click the Service Dates menu item on the left side of the page.

  2. If service dates have already been created for the employee, you can edit the existing service dates:
To change the date associated with a particular service date, click the Select Date button in the Date column for the service date and then select a new date from the Calendar lookup window.
To delete a service date, select the check box in the Delete column next to the service date. The date will be deleted when you click the Submit button in step 6 below.

  3. To add new service dates, click the Add additional Dates link under the Service Dates section.

  4. On the Date Definition Lookup page, select the check box for each service date ID that you want to add to the employee's record, and then click the Submit button. Each service date you select appears in the Service Dates section on the Employees page.

  5. In the Date column, click the Select Date button, and then select the date when the service date went into effect or will go into effect. For example, if you select HIRE as the service date definition, enter the employee's first day of work at your company.

  6. Click the Submit button.
