User emulation allows a manager or practitioner to log on to the Time & Attendance module as another user to resolve timecard exceptions, run end-of-period operations, and perform other basic supervisory tasks for the other user's employees. This may be required if a manager is out sick or on vacation.

Tip: If you have permission to emulate another user, log in to the Time & Attendance module normally, and then click the Options button in the upper right corner of any main page. In the Options window, select the Emulation check box, choose the user you want to emulate from the drop-down menu, and then click the Submit button. (For more detailed instructions, see Emulating Another User).

To configure which employees are allowed to emulate a selected user:

  1. From the Time & Attendance menu, select Maintenance.

Note: If the Maintenance option is not visible, make sure that you have selected Practitioner in the Role Selector.

  2. Under the Employees heading, click the Employee Positions (or Employees) link.

  3. On the Employee Positions page, select the user for whom you want to configure user emulation. All users to whom you have access are listed.

  4. On the Employee Positions page, expand the Access Details section, and then click the Emulation menu item on the left side of the page.

  5. Note: All users who already have permission to emulate the selected user are listed. If no users have been given permission, the list is blank.

  6. If you want to remove a user's permission, select the check box in the Delete column for each manager whose emulating permission you want to remove, and then click the Submit button.

  7. To assign other users permission to emulate the selected user, click the Add additional users who can emulate this user link.

  8. On the Manager User Lookup page, select the check box next to each manager or practitioner you want to give permission to emulate the user, and then click the Done button.

    Notes:
To select all managers in the list, click the check box to the left of the User heading.

A user must have manager rights to emulate other managers. A user has manager rights if the Is Manager check box is selected on the Employees page.

  9. On the Employee Positions page, click the Submit button.
