Time or Hours Based Employees Overview |

Timecard employees record their worked time in the Time & Attendance module by entering their worked times or hours into an electronic timecard. There are two basic types of timecard employees:
Time-based employees record their specific in and out times on the timecard.
Hours-based employees record only their total hours per work period, rather than entering their specific in and out times, on the timecard.
Note: Some employees can view the timecard but not add entries to it or edit existing data. These employees are neither time-based or hours-based employees. These employees usually record their time using clocking icons, the Phone module, or a conventional timeclock.
To determine if you are a timesheet employee and, if so, which type, do the following:
From the Time & Attendance menu, select My Timecard.
Note: If the My Timecard option is not visible, make sure that you have selected Employee in the Role Selector.
On the Today's Activities section, click the button.
Look at the Save button.
If the Save button is active (displayed in color), you are a timecard employee. Continue to step 3 to determine whether you are a time-based or hours-based employee.
If the Save button is grayed out, you are not a timecard employee. This means that you cannot record or edit your time or hours using the timecard, although you can use the timecard to view your data. See Reading Your Timecard for more information about the data displayed on the timecard.
Look at the column headings on the Timecard.
If the Timecard includes columns labeled Time In and Time Out, you are a time-based employee. See Time-Based Employees Overview for information about recording your time.
If the Timecard does not include Time In and Time Out columns, you are an hours-based employee. See Hours-Based Employees Overview for information about recording your time.
Notes:
Some employees can enter their time using either
the timecard or the
clocking icons. If you are able to edit the timecard that appears when
you click the Timecard icon and
the clocking icons appear on your Home
page
you are both a clocking employee
and a time-based
employee.
Your time-entry type (clocking, time-based timecard or hours-based timecard)
is determined by your system administrator.
